Cooking Matters

Recipe For Life Challenge

9 Mar

Have you ever created a delicious and nutritious meal that you think people would love, yet never had anyone to share it with? Well, this may be your chance to get it recognized! Cooking Matters Omaha is hosting a Recipe For Life Challenge. Chefs, foodies, nutrition professionals, and community members are welcome to submit a recipe that they have created all on their own to the Cooking Matters program (specific details, rules and regulations will be announced in April). A handful of recipes will then be selected to be taste-tested in our summer cooking series. So, if you are thinking about submitting a recipe make sure it is kid-friendly! First, second and third place will be awarded to the recipes that are most favored in our classes. Stay tuned for more details soon!

Last week Channel 6 News reporter LeAnne Morman visited Norris Middle School to do a story on a group of teens. We had such a great time cooking with LeAnne there, and we thank Channel 6 for taking the time to come check us out!

If you’re too busy or tired to cook, the drive-thru lane should not be your only option. It’s not good for the wallet and sometimes not good for your body.

A story from one of our Volunteer Chefs…

8 Feb

Chef Mindy Major just started her very first series a couple of weeks ago with a group of kids at Liberty Elementary, and she can already tell the kids are getting so much out of the experience.

“When I got to school early I saw one of the boys walking down the hallway with his teacher. He saw me and said, ‘Are you the chef from my class?’ I said yes. He reached under his coat and pulled out his apron! He was so proud of it. They keep surprising me.”

Chef Mindy’s experience just goes to show that it is the littlest things that make a difference in a child’s life. Cooking Matters gives children the opportunity to feel excited about cooking nutritious foods for themselves- who would of thought?!

Omaha Food Blog and Catering Business

4 Feb

Looking for somewhere to eat this weekend while out on the town? Or do you need catering for an event? Check out these two businesses by Joe Secord. The first is a food blog called Omaha Yum! Joe and his wife enjoyed dining out so much they started blogging about all the new places they were going. They have been to some really cool places and give awesome reviews, so the blog is a great resource to utilize. And hey, you just might figure out you like something new! Especially if you were hesitant to try a new place.

Joe also runs a catering business called Baby Bubba’s Catering. If you are looking to supply some comfort food for your family and friends for an event, or need some wings for a football party, Joe is the man to call! Baby Bubba specializes in American (Traditional), barbecue, and sandwiches. You can’t go wrong with Joe’s food- his menu is a definite crowd pleaser!
